Pressure tanks are a critical piece of your pump system. In general, without a properly functioning pressure tank in your system, you get rapid pump cycling. This rapid pump starting and stopping quickly destroys the pump motor. Water system pressure tanks, no matter what the size, keep your pump from rapidly turning on and off. The bigger the tank the better, meaning that the larger the tank you have, the less your pump will turn on and off, making it last longer. Tanks are not only sized to go with the capacity of your pump, but the larger they are past minimum requirement the more they will help your pump last as long as possible.
